NRT 2D Traineeship

The traineeship provides unique opportunities for MS and PhD materials science and engineering students to gain strong theoretical, practical and professional proficiency in 2D quantum materials research.

Competitive two year fellowships are available to cover the cost of tuition and provides $34,000 of stipend per year. Click the apply tab for more information about application requirements and for application links.

Participation

As a core part of the traineeship you will be asked to participate in traineeship activities such as periodic meetings, evaluations, reports, and other professional development activities. 

Conduct research that is synergistic with and leverages the NSF MonArk Quantum Foundry and its faculty participants.

MSEN M.S. students will progress along 2D Quantum Materials and Devices study concentration area.

You will also complete the following courses including six, 1 credit seminar courses focused on improving communication, professionalism, teamwork product development and entrepreneurship and three, 3 credit courses focused on improving understanding of 2D Materials.

  • MSEN 5811/5911/6811/6911 – Operations Management Seminar sequence (1 hour each)
    • Take the 5000 courses the first year and the 6000 courses the second year.
  • MSEN 5611 or 6611 – Research Communication Seminar (1 hour)
  • MSEN 5821 – Ethics in Research (1 hour)
    • Note this course meets in the summer.
  • ELEG 587V-006 (course number will change in subsequent years): Materials for Quantum Computing (Ware) (3 hours)

  • TBD (available Fall 2024): Functional Materials: from Synthesis to Properties (Hu) (3 hours)

  • TBD (available Spring 2025): Quantum Transport (Churchill) (3 hours)
